Terms used to describe OSU's football season:·Crazy·Roller Coaster·Unpredictable·PsychoticWe were all perplexed. The only thing we knew was if we expected them to win, they lost. When we expected them to get lathered up, they either won or came within a hair of doing so.Even Head Coach Mike Gundy has said "I don't have the answer. It's the dangdest thing I've ever seen."Despite our amateur analysis, we all had some idea what was coming last Saturday because we've all been paying attention during the previous eleven games.Hell, we had an inkling what was coming at Baylor because we watched the game in Manhattan. We could have guessed what happened in….well, honestly, nobody had any clue THAT was going to happen in Manhattan. The thing that stops me, however, is that we are all on the outside looking in. We can't see the day-to-day interactions or the body language. We don't deal with the discipline and execution issues. We are not immersed on the ground level of the program. All we see is the end result on Saturday. You know who is immersed?Head Coach Mike Gundy, and for five million dollars I need to hear something better than "Welp, golly gosh dag nab it jee whiz I just ain't got no idea." You should have had some idea when OSU went 40 minutes without scoring against Texas Tech.Do something different…You should have had some idea when they couldn't score more than 12 points in Manahattan.Do something different…You should have had some idea when they amassed 133 yards in penalties in Waco.Do something different…You should have known that you needed to do something different to get them ready for TCU.Gundy alluded to the team being a bit flat at the beginning of last week, and that he was concerned about a letdown after the big win against West Virginia. OSU fans in unison….Doesn't have to be a big thing. Even the smallest of changes can have huge impacts Mark Redman Jersey. Gundy is completing his 24th season as either an assistant, offensive coordinator, or head coach at Oklahoma State. Are you telling me he doesn't have any coaching tricks up his sleeve? Nothing to shake things up, get the team's attention? In my small sample size of personal coaching experience, one thing I knew for sure…when the opponent was BIG, you didn't need to motivate. You needed to instill the belief that you could hang with Goliath. When the opponent was small, THAT'S when you needed to find a way to motivate the players to perform as if they are playing Goliath. These are not professional athletes. They are kids going to school, just a few years separated from puberty and at widely varying places on the emotional maturity scale. Leadership is key, and it has to come from not only the coaches, but also some of the players who understand what it takes Junior Faualo Jersey. You need vocal AND quiet leaders. Sometimes you get lucky and have some starters, key players that naturally step into the role of keeping the troops in order by speaking to or getting in other players faces. But if you don't have that the coaches have to fill that void. You need vocal coaches involved regardless, setting the example for the younger leaders. You need to figure out how to tap into the emotion and passion of the players. It can take decades to develop that skill, the ability to zero in on an individual athletes buttons. If the head coach is not that person, then there better be assistant coaches or coordinators that bring the fire. Unless you are Alabama, talent alone doesn't get you there, and even the Tide gets fired up. I can guarantee you Nick Saban has lit folks up, and he's not afraid to do something different to shake things up, even after an entire season spent reaching halftime of the College Football Championship game.Don't presume that I'm advocating for changing QBs by that last comment. I'm not on the ground floor and don't know what's in the talent cupboard. But in a season where the team CLEARLY had the talent to compete with the top teams in the league it appears the head ball coach chose to stay the course despite the painfully visible warning signs. With over 700 votes, as fans, you seem to agree with that assessment:In your opinion, what is MOST responsible for OSU's results this season? Ok hoops, it's your turn, then you get 80% of respondents that put this directly on the coaches overall. If we look at categories, 73% agree that leadership in general was the main issue this season. However I think lumping things together pales in comparison to the fact that 53% agree that the coaches didn't set the tone, and I would argue that number should be at 73%.Coaches speak all the time about developing young men. It should have been painfully clear last spring that there would be a vacuum of player leadership Antonio Hill Jersey. Should have been excruciatingly clear this past August in fall camp. The COACHES need to find and develop those players because you HAVE to have them. Obviously they can't control who those players necessarily will be, or how quickly they grow into that role. That is the one place where I'll give them a bit of a pass.I understand that stability is key in a program. There are limits to the amount of time spent practicing. But in a year where the issues you had were well within your control to address it appears that not much changed. Other teams were able to overcome the thing you can't control…injuries…and yet OSU couldn't get past themselves. THAT, for me, is all on the coaches. I would argue this trend has been brewing since 2015 when Mason Rudolph and James Washington were still here and well on their way to being stars. Big performances in big games, lackluster against lesser opponents. That alone points the finger at the program more than the players. You could claim with evidence that Gundy has struggled with making big changes without being forced. The only examples I can think of where a big change was made during the season by choice was 2013 following the loss to West Virginia, which almost led to a Big 12 title, and Zac Robinson taking over for Bobby Reid in 2007. Folks can point to 2009 and 2014 as examples of Gundy being unwilling to pull the trigger for wins. Do we add 2018 to that list? Funny that the only examples I can think of involve quarterbacks...At the end of the season, regardless of the bowl outcome, Gundy will set forth on his journey into his 25th coaching season at Oklahoma State, and his 15th in the only head coaching gig he's known. As with all good coaches I'm sure he's still learning, so let's hope the educational opportunities presented in 2018 don't go to waste.
The regular season is over and many Oklahoma State commits will compete for state titles while a few will turn their attention to Stillwater with their HS playing days behind them. I'm convinced that the saying "it's the most wonderful time of the year" actually refers to high school football playoffs. Oklahoma may only have three rounds, but the Texas HS football playoffs are six rounds, culminating the weekend before Christmas every year Yakiri Walker Jersey. Check out last weeks' results and the path ahead for our playoff-bound future Cowboys.Garret Rangel, QuarterbackFrisco Lone Star saved the toughest for last. The Rangers capped off the regular season with an 8-2 record following a 7-6 loss to district rival and defending 5A-I state champion Denton Ryan last week.Rangel had a tough night facing what is basically a Division I defense. He completed 9-of-20 passes for 55 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. He added three carries for 15 yards. The Denton Ryan defense includes Texas commit CB Austin Jordan, Army commit DL Mason Davis, 2023 five-star linebacker Anthony Hill, and 2023 Division I recruits Kaden Kelly and MarQuice Hill. Lone Star ranks No. 5 in the state for 5A-I, but that doesn't mean the Rangers have an easy road. They could face No. 2 College Station in round two, No. 3 Highland Park in round three, and a rematch with No. 1 Ryan in round four. Survive that and Lone Star could face DJ McKinney and No. 4 Colleyville Heritage in the state semifinals while the winner of No. 7 Manvel and No. 8 Katy Paetow is the likely opponent in the state championship game https://www.uhoutletstore.com/Tj_Gardner_Jersey-31. In other words, Heritage should breeze through Region I, and the bracket for Region III and Region IV aren't particularly strong either. Meanwhile, Lone Star has to go through a murders' row of opponents to survive Region II. The encouraging news is they just played the No. 1 team in the state within a point. It can be done! Here's a neat little mini-feature made for social media on Rangel from Sports Stars of Tomorrow. Lone Star opens the playoffs against Dallas Adams at the Ford Center in Frisco at 7 this Thursday night.Lone Star High School quarterback Garret Rangel shares some words of wisdom that he would give his younger self. They take on Abilene Cooper at Mustang-Panther Stadium in Grapevine in round one at 7 on Friday night Pierce DeVaughn Jersey. No. 4 Heritage is the only state-ranked team in 5A-I Region I and will have to beat Mansfield Summit in round four to get to the state semifinals. Then No. 1 Ryan or No. 5 Lone Star await in the state semifinals should Heritage make it that far.ATH Cameron Epps and Chaminade took down Fort Zumwalt South 42-12 last week. Epps finished with 15 carries for 154 yards and three scores. Chaminade is currently in the playoffs, and they're playing in the Class 5 District 3 Championship Gamewhich is not the State Championship Gameagainst Fort Zumwalt North on Friday. Not entirely sure how the Missouri HSFB football playoffs work so... this may or may not be Chaminade's last game?
A new dawn is upon college football, complete with a new trophy and all. Who plays for the National Championship will no longer be decided by two human polls, and six computers. Instead, a thirteen person selection committee of esteemed athletes, scholars, and journalist will decide who makes the four team playoff for the title. It's a system Big 12 fans may not be too thrilled with come January. As long as there's five power conferences or an AAC team possibly knocking on the door) someone is almost always going to be left on the outside looking in.This year, that someone is likely to be the Big 12 Champion. To realize that, all we have to do is look at who's in.The problem with a team like Baylor at the conference helm, is that the rest of the nation believes they're just a bunch of smoke and mirrors. A notion Oklahoma State only helped reinforce last season. The first spot is easy, the SEC Champion. I really shouldn't need to explain this. However intolerable their dominance over college football has been, it's equally undeniable. The next spot will go to Florida State. Provided they finish the year with only one loss. The reigning National Champion will be taking the field with more future NFL talent than anyone else in the country. If they take care of business, they're in.The PAC 12 is the early favorite for that third spot. By the time the season is over they could arguably be the best conference in college football. If either Oregon, USC, UCLA or Stanford can escape with one loss, the selection committee won't be able to deny them a spot. The final team to receive a party invitation will be the Big Ten winner. The conference looks to be a meat grinder. Michigan State, Michigan, Penn State Joe Rahal Jersey, and Wisconsin will all be in the mix, but with Braxton Miller returning to Ohio State, the Buckeyes are the early favorites to take home conference hardware and earn a chance at the National Title. It's that simple. The Big 12 just isn't good enough right now to make an argument for supplanting one of those seats. All hope isn't necessarily lost for the Big 12, but if the conference wants to punch their ticket in, it has to get better. Specifically Texas. Whenever the Longhorns are down, the whole conference is perceived to be down. It doesn't really matter what anyone else does if Texas isn't living up to their pedigree. The problem with a team like Baylor at the conference helm, is that the rest of the nation believes they're just a bunch of smoke and mirrors. A notion Oklahoma State only helped reinforce last season https://www.ukfootballprostore.com/Trevion_Shadrick_harris_Jersey-124. Oklahoma's destruction of Alabama helped an otherwise disastrous year for the Big 12 reputation, but Baylor's fall to UCF showed that the conference as a whole is much weaker than years past. The Big 12 could also use some big wins in non-conference play. The good news is there's plenty of opportunity to make some waves. Nine Big 12 schools have a non-conference opponent in a power five conference on the schedule. Here's hoping Oklahoma State pulls off what would surely become known as "the miracle in Dallas", Dana Holorsen manages to down enough Redbull to roll back the Crimson Tide, or Gus Malzahn and company gets Snydered in Manhattan Parker Boudreaux Jersey. Any of the three happens, and it puts the conference back on the map in a big way.The Big 12's best chance to sneak in though, is if the PAC 12 or Big Ten cannibalizes themselves. Both conferences are going to be exceedingly difficult to win. If either one has a two-loss champion it just might open the door enough to let the Big 12 through. No matter how you slice it though, there will be plenty of drama around the fourth and fifth place bubble. If you think the answer is moving to an eight team, sixteen team, or even a thirty-two team playoff, don't hold your breath. An expanded playoff isn't coming anytime soon."Our goal with the BCS going into this was to maintain the best regular season in sports," Bill Hancock said at SEC Media Days. "We've done that with the playoff. Four teams is not too many, and it's not too far. It goes just far enough."There will always be a bubble no matter where you put it. College football is better when every game matters. It just is.The system might be new, but in the end it's the same for the Big 12. Lose and you're out. The Big 12 Champion must go undefeated, and even then, for a team like Baylor it might not be enough. Sooner Nation seems convinced that Oklahoma is going to the National Title game. If that's the case they're going to need a big dose of Sooner Magic, some help from Texas, and stumble or two at the top of the rankings wouldn't hurt either.
Happy bowl season college football fans! This weekend will be the start of bowl season starting out from the worst bowl games to the grand daddy of them all, The National Championship in Arizona. Here are the rankings from best to worst, leave your top 10 rankings in the comments.1. Oklahoma vs. Clemnson, Orange Bowl: A rematch from last year's Russell Athletic Bowl and the Sooners are coming for blood after what happened last season.2. Michigian State vs. Alabama, Cotton Bowl: The Spartans are back in the Cotton Bowl and looking to pull another miracle as they are the underdog against highly favorite team, Alabama.3. Iowa vs. Stanford, Rose Bowl: Iowa didn't win the Big 10 Championship, so here is a good consolation prize for them after finishing the regular season, 11-0.4. Ohio State vs. Notre Dame Da'Jon Terry Jersey, Fiesta Bowl: A lot of Buckeye fans are not happy that there not in the CFB Playoff, but this is a consolation prize against one of the top football programs in the country, Notre Dame.5. Oklahoma State vs. Ole Miss, Sugar Bowl: Ole Miss is losing some of their best players due to injuries or off-field issues so that may give Oklahoma State a higher chance to win it https://www.tvfanprostore.com/Alontae_Taylor_Jersey-26.6. Houston vs. Florida State, Chick Fil-A Peach Bowl: Houston is a small football program that is going against a storied football program, but if Houston pulls off the upset against the power dog Seminoles then this might be upset of the year for bowl game wise.7. TCU vs. Oregon, Alamo Bowl: Both of these teams started on top then they quickly fell out, but at the end of the season they are slowly coming back. This Treyvone Boykin's last game as a Horn Frog.8. Baylor vs. North Carolina, Russell Athletic Bowl: First, thank you Baylor for giving us the Sugar Bowl spot! Both of these teams, have a high power offense, but will Baylor bounce back with their offense after the downfall against Texas?9. Michigan vs. Florida, Citrus Bowl: Both of these teams had disappointing seasons last season, but finished the season with eight or nine more wins. Interesting matchup.10. Northwestern vs. Tennessee, Outback Bowl: I wonder how much food from Outback they will eat during their trip?11. NC State vs. Mississippi State, Belk Bowl: Sounds like a decent bowl matchup.12. BYU vs. Utah, Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl: BYU is a mormon school and is playing at the sin city in America.13. Texas Tech vs. LSU, Texas Bowl: If Oklahoma State didn't get the Sugar Bowl, then this would of been there consolation prize. Still though a matchup with LSU against a Big 12 team may be a worthy cause to win for the Big 12.14. Wisconsin vs. USC, Holiday Bowl: Might as well consider this as USC's home field adavantage since San Diego is not far Los Angeles. They are going to have a BIG advantage for that and Wisconsin is having trouble getting fans to go to the bowl and causing a lot of controversy by not sending their whole marching band on the trip and leaving the freshman at home.15. Penn State vs. Georgia, Tax Slayer Bowl: Its one of those bowl names that makes me scratch my head. Two decent teams going at it.16. Louisville vs. Texas A.M. , Music City Bowl: Aggies didn't want to play in the Texas bowl because it will be against a Big 12 team. So they ended up here17. Kansas State vs. Arkansas, Liberty Bowl: Last time these two teams played against each other was The Cotton Bowl in 2012 and Arkansas pulled it off. Razorbacks started off in the top 15, but quickly got the boot out of the rankings then pulled off the miracle win against Ole Miss and beat LSU for the second year in a row.18. Miami vs. Washington State, Sun Bowl: Sorry Miami there is nothing at El Paso, Texas compare to the other bowls that you been to.19. UCLA vs. Nebraska, Foster Farms Bowl: Another bowl game that makes me cringe. Nebraska is one of the five win teams playing against a good UCLA team. Don't really expect a lot from this game.20. Boise State vs. Northern Illinois, Poinsetta Bowl: Both of these teams used to be a small powerhouse school, but have been quiet over the past couple of years.21. Toledo vs. Temple, Boca Raton Bowl: Add this bowl to my bowl games that make me cringe. It's not half as bad when the game is at sunny Florida.22. Western Kentucky vs. South Florida, Miami Beach Bowl: Consider this as South Florida's home game since it's not as far as Western Kentucky has to travel.23. Auburn vs. Memphis, Birmingham Bowl: Memphis has been hot, but how did they get this bowl? Was Auburn at the National Championship a couple of years ago? What happen to them?24. California vs. Air Force, Armed Forces Bowl:A good worthy cause bowl25. Indiana vs. Duke, Pinstripe Era Bowl: About every year, it snows on gameday at this bowl. Wonder if it's going to do it again?26. Arizona State vs Brandon Turnage Jersey. West Virginia, Cactus Bowl: Arizona State only has to drive less than an hour to get to play at Arizona Diamondback's stadium, however West Virginia will be a different story. Mountaineers was suppose to get a better bowl game, but blew it when they lost to Kansas State that knocks them to the last bowl advantage.27. Pittsburgh vs. Navy, Military Bowl: No comment28. Tulsa vs. Virginia Tech, Independence Bowl: Good news, happy to see Tulsa go bowling this year after a couple year absence. Bad News: Playing against Virginia Tech that finished with five wins and trying to win this for there coach since he is retiring after this season.29. Arkansas State vs. Louisiana Tech, New Orleans Bowl: The backyard bowl for the Sugar bowl. How many times has Louisiana Tech played in this bowl?30. San Diego State vs. Cincinnati, Hawaii Bowl: Surprised that this bowl still exists! Good luck getting fans to that bowl game.31. Washington vs. Southern Miss., Heart of Dallas Bowl: After attending this bowl a couple years ago, why does this bowl still exist? Playing the day after New Years Eve was painful, but now this game is being played the day after Christmas. Be glad I didn't had the heart to rank it even lower after that experience.32. Arizona vs. New Mexico ,Gildan New Mexico Bowl: Arizona was in the Fiesta Bowl last season, but then quickly fell to one of the worst bowl's in the country. I wonder how much clothes they are going to get with their bowl gifts?33. Nevada vs. Colorado State, Arizona Bowl: Two teams in the same conference playing against each other for the bowl game. Weird situation...34. Georgia Southern vs. Bowling Green, GoDaddy Bowl: Another five win team in this bowl35. Connecticut vs. Marshall, St. Petersburg Bowl: Enjoy warm sunny Florida, but it's not much of a game.36. Middle Tennesse vs. Western Michigan, Bahamas Bowl: Same comment as the St. Petersburg bowl37. Central Michigan vs. Minnesota De'Shawn Rucker Jersey, Quick Lane Bowl: Another five win team in the sceaniro, but Central Michigan should pull off the win in this one.38. Akron vs. Utah State, Famous Idaho Potato Bowl: Oh yes, who can forget about this bowl? Playing on Boise's blue turf field in cold Idaho.39. Ohio vs. Appalachian State, Camellia Bowl:NA40. San Jose State vs. Georgia State, Cure Bowl: Congrats you got my vote for the worst bowl of them all! Didn't know it was a bowl game till I heard about it. A five win Georgia State team and it's not even on TV! That's enough to get my vote for the worst of them all.
The late signing period begins Wednesday, Feb. 5 and while Oklahoma State has mostly completed its 2020 class, the Cowboys still have some work to do Andrew Griffith Jersey. With 20 players already signed for 2020including two transfersand commit Jabbar Muhammad expected to sign, OSU's class is pretty well wrapped up. That said, OSU has four scholarships available and is expected to use them all.Where might the coaching staff look to utilize those remaining scholarships? That's what we plan to run down the next few days, starting with an area fans are concerned about right nowwide receiver. It's not a glaring need for 2020 despite OSU losing four pass-catchers to the transfer portal as 2018 Biletnikoff finalist Tylan Wallace, Dillon Stoner, Landon Wolf and Braydon Johnson are all back. Plus, if former four-start receiver Langston Anderson is ready to go, that's a solid five-deep.That said, there's a strong chance OSU will look to bring in someone with some experience for one season, like they did with Jordan McCray this past season.Jordan Jones | ArkansasThe 6-foot-1, 185-pound former three-star prospect from Smackover, Arkansas missed the 2019 season while recovering from an ankle surgery. He has a strong redshirt freshman season, playing in nine games and starting in four. He had 252 yards and two touchdowns on 16 catches. His numbers dipped in 2018 with 191 yards and one TD on 17 catches. His recovery is something to be concerned about, but he's a proven player who's drop in production could be an attributed to bad quarterback play in 2018.OSU reportedly had some interest in him during the recruiting process, but never made an offer. This might be the right time to do so.Aaron Cephus | RiceCephus is a former two-star prospect from Houston, Texas who became the team's leading receiver his freshman season, nabbing 25 catches for 622 yards, and five touchdowns. He was one of the leading pass catchers as a sophomore. Here's the concern with Cephus; he was suspended for his entire junior year for "a violation of team policies." Without knowing what went down, it's hard to gauge if it would be a good move bringing Cephus in. But, if the Cowboys were looking for an immediate contributor with experience, he's a guy to keep an eye on https://www.omroutlet.com/Lakia_Henry_Jersey-95. Dee Anderson | LSUSimilar to Cephus, Anderson was suspended last season. Unlike Cephus, Anderson was suspended for a "conditioning issue." I have no idea what that means. The former four-star receiver from Desoto, Texas appeared in 19 games catching 27 passes for 392 yards and a touchdown. The best thing about Anderson is that he's not only immediately eligible, he has two years of eligibility remaining.Aaron Young | DukeYoung, a three-star member of the class of 2015 from Murrieta, California, is an interesting guy. He entered his name in the transfer portal ahead of the 2019 season, before deciding to stick with Duke. The decision to return led to his best season at Duke.In 10 games, Young had a career high in catches, yards, and touchdowns. Sports National Writer Chris Hummer has made a crystal ball prediction for Young to end up at Florida Atlantic, but I would consider him if I was OSU.Roshauud Paul | Texas AMThe former three-star prospect has seen his production levels at AM drop each season since he caught 16 passes for 187 yards as a freshman. Since then, he's caught seven passes for 81 yards. However he has also been a solid return man for the Aggies with 34 punt returns for 353 yards.Unlike the others names we've listed Paul might be required to sit out a year. However, if he could get a waiver to play immediately, as a true senior, he could potentially be in Stillwater for two seasons https://www.omroutlet.com/Deane_Leonard_Jersey-80, though that would require him to redshirt 2020 and only appear in up to four games.OSU was among the 14 schools to originally offer Paul, so the connection is already there. This one isn't my favorite option, but if it turns out they don't need him as much, it would add some much needed depth of experience for 2021.
Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching. That means its time to put down your holiday lights and Mariah Carey Christmas music and appreciate Thanksgiving a little more! It also means that we are about to find out which teams are for real across the college football landscape. The second of five College Football Playoff rankings were released last Tuesday as teams approach the stretch run of the season. Let's take a look at where the Big 12 stands. TCU No. 10 Oklahoma State Oklahoma State has a lot going on this weekend. The Cowboys have branded their night game with TCU as a blackout game. It is also the Folds of Honor Military Appreciation Game for Oklahoma State. On top of all of that, former OSU Heisman winner Barry Sanders is going into OSU's Ring of Honor and being memorialized with a statue outside of the stadium. With that being said, I don't know that this game will be as easy for Oklahoma State as everyone thought it would be a week ago. Redshirt freshman and OU transfer Chandler Morris got his first start at TCU last weekend and upset Baylor while accounting for nearly 500 yards of total offense. He won't have an easy time in his first start on the road against the team with the best defense in the conference, but there isn't a lot of film on Morris and he should prove to be more potent than Max Duggan has been for the Horned Frogs. This is certainly a trap game for Oklahoma State. A prime time matchup with Texas Tech next will be too. These teams aren't Oklahoma, but the Cowboys can't afford a loss to TCU or Texas Tech in the hunt for a Big 12 Championship Game berth. Oklahoma State should win this game. The TCU defense hasn't been great this season and starting a freshman quarterback against OSU's defense isn't a recipe for success. That being said, this is college football. Anything can happen, especially in November. The CRFF staff has Oklahoma State over TCU on Saturday night.No. 8 Oklahoma No. 13 BaylorThe most intriguing Big 12 matchup of the day will kickoff at 11 on Saturday morning on FOX when Oklahoma takes on Baylor in Waco. Oklahoma may be 9-0 but this will be the Sooners first real test of the season. That is exactly when OU is ranked eighth despite being undefeated. A win over Baylor this weekend would likely move the Oklahoma into the top five. Both of these teams need a win this weekend. Baylor doesn't want a third loss on the season and would like to stay in the hunt for the Big 12 Championship Game. Oklahoma desperately needs a quality win to move up in the College Football Playoff rankings. A loss would prove the committee right in its ranking the Sooners lower than OU fans would like https://www.oscoutlet.com/Jacob_Morris_Jersey-14. This is a game Baylor could absolutely win. The Bears have played well at home so far this season and they do a lot of the same things Kansas does. Kansas nearly beat OU last month and OU needed late game heroics from Caleb Williams on a play that may or may not have even been legal in order to win. The Sooners will need to play much better against Baylor if they want to win. Our staff has Oklahoma beating Baylor on the road in Waco, but is split on if the Bears will cover a 6.5 point spread or not. I have Baylor covering the spread but losing 38-33. West Virginia Kansas StateWest Virginia will attempt to get its offense restarted after a rough showing against Oklahoma State at home last week. The Mountaineers mustered just three points and 133 total yards of offense in a 24-3 loss. Kansas State is coming off of a 35-10 win over Kansas last weekend, making the Wildcats eligible for a bowl game with a 6-3 record. Kansas State still has games against Texas and Baylor left but can clinch a winning record with a win this weekend. West Virginia is 4-6 and still needs to wins to get to bowl eligibility. A win this weekend would take some of the pressure off the Mountaineers with Texas and Kansas still left on the schedule. Kansas State has won three games in a row and West Virginia is 2-1 in its last three games Chuba Hubbard Jersey. I think this will be a close game but I have Kansas State pulling out a close win at home. I have West Virginia covering the spread, but the rest of the staff is split on if that will happen or not. Kickoff is set for 11 on Saturday morning on FS1.Iowa State Texas TechTexas Tech's first game since hiring former Baylor assistant coach Joey McGuire to be its head coach will come against Iowa State. McGuire won't be coaching this game, or any game, until next year. Interim coach Sonny Cumbie will lead the Red Raiders at home against Iowa State still looking for one more win to get to bowl eligibility. Iowa State is coming off a 30-7 beat down of Texas at home last weekend. The Iowa State defense was particularly impressive, limiting the Horns explosive plays and keeping them out of the end zone. The ISU offense got off to a slow start but made adjustments and recovered in the second half. At 6-3, this has been a disappointing season in Ames. That says something about how healthy the program is though. The Cyclones should finish 2-1 down the stretch with wins over Texas Tech and TCU and a loss to Oklahoma. If Iowa State beats Oklahoma and wins out, it should lock up a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game. A 2-1 finish to the season would still result in an 8-4 season with a chance to win a ninth game in a bowl game. Iowa State shouldn't have any problem with Texas Tech, though the Cyclones haven't played their best football on the road. I have Iowa State over Texas Tech and covering a 10.5 point spread. The rest of the staff picked Iowa State to win the game but is split on if it will cover the spread or not. Kickoff is set for 2:30 on Saturday afternoon on ESPN2.Kansas TexasThe Texas Longhorns have dropped four straight games and blown double-digit leads in the second half in three of those four games. A UT player took a video of Texas assistant coach Bo Davis ripping into his team on the bus after the Iowa State game for laughing and joking. It's clear there is a culture problem in the locker room, and there likely has been for a long time. Now the Horns seem to have a staff that is unwilling to put up with it and is actively trying to change the losing culture into a winning one. Texas needs to win two of its last three games to make a bowl game. That's not a sentence anyone expected to be reading at halftime of the Red River Rivalry, but here we are. Texas should get a win against Kansas and would need to beat either West Virginia or Kansas State on the road in order to qualify for a bowl game.Kansas caught lightning in a bottle against OU and still couldn't capitalize and win a Big 12 game. That was likely its best chance this season. The Jayhawks are 1-8 so far this season with Texas https://www.oscoutlet.com/Tyler_Berryhill_Jersey-138, TCU and West Virginia still left on the schedule. Kansas lost to its in-state rivals 35-10 last week and lost to OSU 55-3 the week before that. Our entire staff has Texas beating Kansas to bring its record to 5-5 on the season, however, the entire staff has Kansas covering a massive 30.5 point spread. Kansas might be the worst power five team in football, other than maybe Vanderbilt, but Texas hasn't proved itself to be good enough to beat a power five team by 30 points. Games Around the NationThere is a pretty good slate of games around the nation this weekend with the Oklahoma- Baylor showdown headlining the group. No. 6 Michigan faces a test against Penn State on the road at 11 on Saturday morning on ABC. Mississippi State faces No. 17 Auburn on the road in a game that should be evenly matched. No. 1 Georgia takes on a potent Tennessee offense at 2:30 on the SEC on CBS. College GameDay will be live from The Grove on Saturday night morning ahead of that game. Here are some our staff picks from around the nation.
It's happened again. After a football season where Oklahoma State fans had to suffer through six pre-noon kick-offs https://www.mwoutletshop.com/Kalel_Mullings_Jersey-142, the basketball team is now getting the early tips. The NCAA has released the game times for all 32 first round games. The 10-seeded Cowboys will tip-off against 7-seed Michigan at 11:15 a.m. CT on Friday, March 17th. That makes this the first game of the day, which means all march madness eyes will be on the match-up of the No Jesse Madden Jersey. 1 and No. 5 scoring offenses in the country.Just a few days ago, OSU got the 11:30 a.m. tip-off in the Big 12 tournament, a game where they lost to Iowa State and didn't look great in the first half. It's said that with early tips, the team that wakes up the best and the most energized Noah Stewart Jersey, is the team that wins. If that's the case, I hope Underwood has the whole team asleep early and ready to go on Friday morning, because they are going to be going up against a better offense than they faced in the Cyclones. The Cowboys' game will be broadcast on CBS with Jim Nantz and Grant Hill handling the play-by-play, Bill Raftery on analysis, and Tracy Wolfson reporting.
It's high noon... An in-control Sanders could be dangerous: Spencer Sanders doesn't want his coach to get any grief for starting him this season. He's ready to get started and prove himself as the leader for this Cowboy team Marqui Lowery Jersey. If he keeps his eye on the prize and stays true the player he is, it could be dangerous for Oklahoma State's opponents. "I was so big on getting the big play and stuff like that because I was young," Sanders said. "I wanted to go deep. I wanted a touchdown. I wanted to score. Now I'm more about patience, timing, get the first down. If I have a shot, I take the shot. But I'll take the first down five times before I take that shot."First downs should be easy to come by given Oklahoma State's skill talent riches.Hubbard and Wallace give the Cowboys a pair of All-American pace setters, but there are plenty of other players to distribute the ball to. Dillon Stoner emerged as WR1 in Wallace's absence, averaging 91.5 yards per game over the Cowboys' final four regular season games https://www.mssoutlet.com/Kids-42. Junior Braydon Johnson averaged 22.6 yards per catch last season, which led the Big 12. Former walk on Landon Wolf showed to be a dangerous slot threat with 25 catches, and the Cowboys added a pair of impact transfers in Dee Anderson from LSU and Davontavean Martin from Washington State. 247 Sports Tay Martin expected to play a big part Saturday: Washington State transfer Tay Martin is expected to have an opportunity that most wide receivers at Oklahoma State don't normally see. He is likely going to get some significant playing time in Saturdays game against Tulsa. He comes from being coached by the air raid master Mike Leach which is helping him adjust at OSU Jordan Reid Jersey. Martin comes to Stillwater from Washington State and was coached by air raid connoisseur Mike Leach.."Well actually Leach built his offense off ours, but either way the terminology is relatively similar and so it did help him in his adjustment to Oklahoma State," Gundy said.Fellow receiver star Tylan Wallace said that coming from Leach's system definitely helped Martin adjust quickly to the ways of Gundy and the Cowboys.Martin just had to learn the different smaller tweaks in the style."I think that helped him a lot, running the spread and everything, airing the ball out," Wallace said. "Having that experience behind him is definitely going to help him in the way we run our offense for sure." O'Colly Tylan Wallace praises Brennan Presley: Oklahoma State captain Tylan Wallace showed high praise for his fellow wide receiver Brennan Presley. Wallace said that Presley reminds him of himself as a freshman. The scary part?
Remember in the movie Pearl Harbor when the Japanese general is like "I fear all we've done is awaken a sleeping giant."? I really want that to be GIA today. The recipe is all there. One of the best teams in college basketball is coming to town. The game is in the national spotlight. This Oklahoma State squad has gone unnoticed this year, and now has the chance to prove themselves and pack GIA through conference play. That's what I hope happens at least, but perhaps I'm romanticizing the whole thing. The Shockers are coached by one of the most experienced and respected coaches in college basketball https://www.mthoutlet.com/Eric_Meeks_Jersey-116, Gregg Marshall who sports a 265-91 overall record since taking over the program. Marshall is known for his gritty coaching style that produces efficient offenses and disruptive defenses. Wichita State has finished in the top ten in defensive rebound percentage in eight of the last ten seasons under Marshall.FrontcourtThe Shockers certainly do not lack size. Former Edmond Memorial star Shaq Morris leads the way for the Shocker front-court. The senior leads Wichita State in scoring at 14.6 points per game and is a constant pick-and-roll and post up weapon for the Shocker offense. Forward Darral Willis Jr. has also been huge on both ends for the Shockers. Willis has lead the way on the boards this season with 6.5 rebounds per game. Defensively, Willis has made his presence known as well, blocking nearly two shots per game. BackcourtThe Shocker backcourt is lead by point guard Landry Shamet. NBA scouts have absolutely fallen in love with Shamet as he has ideal NBA size and athleticism as well as being a prolific outside shooter and having an extremely high basketball IQ. Shamet is a fantastic ball handler that is known for being able to operate at different speeds. KU transfer, Connor Frankamp has been a major contributor for the Shockers as well. Frankamp is a solid three point shooter that is also more than capable of running the offense when Shamet goes to the bench. This is Round TwoThe Cowboys and Shockers met a year ago and the Cowboys absolutely dominated. Jeffrey Carrol and Jawun Evans has 22 points each and the Cowboys were extremely efficient from the three point line, shooting 52 percent. It's worth noting, that Jawun Evans guy was pretty good and perhaps the fact that he demanded so much attention from the Shocker defense allowed the Pokes to heat up from three. Maybe. However, it is only the best arena in college basketball when its packed, 13,000 strong. I'm pretty sure Stillwater High School has had louder crowds than OSU so far this season. However, we are done with that playing directional schools nonsense and are welcoming one of the best teams in the nation. Unless something better is going on at 3 p.m. on a December Saturday in Stillwater, Wichita State will awaken a sleeping giant.2. DefenseThe Pokes have played incredibly well defensively so far this season, holding all six opponents under 42 percent shooting at home. The Cowboy defense hasn't been tested like they will be on Saturday, it'll be interesting to see how they look to slow down the ShametMorris duo Cam Fancher Jersey. The Shockers play a little defense themselves. Marshall's defense is insanely disciplined and is great at running you off the three point line and contesting shots without fouling.3. Big MitchMitchell Solomon might be the most important player in this game. The senior will be tasked with stopping Shaq Morris and absolutely CANNOT get in foul trouble in this one. We can't have another repeat of the dunk fest that occurred against AM if the Cowboys are going to have any chance. If I were a gambling man, I would probably take Oklahoma State in this one.....+5 against the spread. I expect it to be an extremely competitive game that ultimately ends in Wichita State's favor. Don't think Marshall's squad forgot about the pounding the Cowboys delivered against this team last year. With all of that being said, I think this team is going to give us a lot to be optimistic about win or lose.
